Google Caffeine - Can I order a decaf?

What is Google Caffeine?

A few weeks ago, Google pre-announced the launch of Google Caffeine. Caffeine will be Google's next big update. Though it has not officially rolled out, Google did give us access to check it out at www2.sandbox.google.com. I thought the URL was kind of ironic since there had been the long debate about whether Google did sandbox sites.

What does Google Caffeine mean to SEO?

Google's says the update is a big change to their background engine but should not affect the search results. It will mean that sites are indexed faster and more thoroughly. I believe this will mean a greater power will be given to sites which update frequently and more focus will be given to social marketing. This will make SEO a much more involved game. Gone will be the days of doing some basic optimization techniques in site then getting a few links and presto #1 on Google. Probably a lot of mom and pop style SEO's will fade out of the picture and SEO's with a board range of marketing experience will take hold. It also means getting newer content found will be an easier task. I imagine that Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and other social media will start dominating the serps, just like Wikipedia had dominated it up til now. All over I'm not too happy about the thought of that. Though I believe social media has its place, I find it sort of like fast food, really not healthy to eat all of the time.

Some Google Caffeine observations?

Searching for the word "the" currently returns 13 billion results and Caffeine it returns 14.8 billions results. "Sex" currently returns 657 million results and on Caffeine returns 76.6 million results. So Google Caffeine will mean a larger index but less sex. Actually, it shows lower result numbers for more specific searches. This means that though they are increasing the size their index, they are becoming more focused and stricter about the results they give. So far the overall rankings look the same though, so sites that were on top before Caffeine will still be on top after it. Another thing to note is the speed. What took old Google .14 seconds to find now will only take .09 seconds to display - that means .05 extra seconds to spend on what really matters, surfing for porn... I mean learning of the origins of mankind and understanding the secrets of life.
