Allan Pollett's Million Dollar Experiment 1st Status Report

Recap of last few days…

True to my word, I started the Million Dollar Experiment with a bang. One of the most commonly marketed tools for Twitter is theTweettank which automates the entire process of using Twitter. I reviewed their product Tweet Tank review.

Here was my plan use Tweet tank and Click Bank to create automated income from affiliate marketing on Twitter.

1) I set up three new accounts on Twitter each targeting a different category (Fitness, Marketing, and Weddings).
2) I used my ClickBank account where I found products which offered high percentage of sale price and had historically high conversion ratios.
3) I made three lists of links one for each new account which I converted using Bit.ly to enable tracking and maximize my later Tweets.
4) I configured Tweettank to automate direct messages with one of my affiliate links for each
5) I configured Tweettank to automate RSS feeds
6) I configured Tweettank to automate my Tweets which were a mix of something funny and an affiliate link
7) I configured Tweettank to automate find followers
8) Let in run for past 2 days...each day I modify my automated Tweets to prevent duplication of Tweets.

So the results…drum roll

1) One account got banned from Twitter. It wasn’t the fault of Tweettank..I choose to blame my wife. I was showing her one of the functions where you can do a mass search for followers I accidentally ended up following hundreds of people over a very short time. This is a major red flag for Twitter. I recommend you don’t repeat my mistake.
2) The other 2 account have almost 200 followers each now and both even have lists following them and have sent 300 people to the affiliate links combined. This is pretty good considering both are new accounts and it was really about 30 hours of them running. To achieve the same results using my specialty of SEO would be much harder. To Adwords would be insane and would have cost me about $300.

So how many sales???…

Sadly, there were no sales. The visitors didn’t convert into sales even though according to ClickBank the landing pages have 9% conversions rates. I should have gotten at 27 sales. So the question is why not? There could one of four reasons: 1) The landing pages failed to convert. 2) Tweet Tank failed to drive traffic. 3) My Tweets didn’t bring right type of people to the landing pages. 4) People using Twitter are less likely to convert compared to other methods used to drive traffic.
Personally, I felt positive about Tweettank, though their RSS feed doesn’t seem to work. It does its job well. I’m more concerned about the type of people using Twitter and the effectiveness of the Clickbank affiliate landing pages. My fear is that Twitterers get so many affiliate offers and promotions that they quickly get jaded to the experience.

So what’s next???…

I would like to encourage people to send their get rich quick or automated money schemes for me to test. I will continue the Tweettank experiment because two days really isn’t much evidence either way.

Here’s some feedback and stories from people who joined the Million Dollar Experiment.

I haven't touched one in a couple years.

Thanks for this - with some renewed curiosity, I'm happy to jump back in and help anyone I can at least avoid the bogus ones :)
